Criminal Colour
We were anxiously waiting to see him. To see how he looks ?. Is he a smart /young, strong man ? Which state he belongs to ?.
Suddenly a police jeep arrived. Two policemen got down along with a strong young man. But he was handcuffed. He was straight away led to the magistrate chamber. All our eyes were focused at him. A strong man -may be at his 30's fearlessly walking towards the court room. We were there in the court from early morning, as all of us were summoned by court. I was summoned because he stole my car from my house at Coimbatore and later recovered from this man. He was caught in another robbery at thanjavur after 5 months. Others present in court room had similar stories connected with him. one man had lost his jewels,another his TV,bike etc. All those items recovered from him were identified and the original owners were summoned to the court.
Every time when the case came up in the court, all of us were supposed to be present in the court including the thief who was brought to court from jail. Last time the case was adjourned. This time also without hearing, the judge postponed the hearing to another date.
He was handcuffed again and was being led to the police jeep for taking back to jail. We were again watching him. As he was passing by, he suddenly stopped for a moment near us and raised his handcuffed hand and said "Give me Rs 5000/- each and I will admit the case immediately for all of you. You know, if I do not admit the case you all need to come to court every time the case come up. Once I admit, the case will be over with my admission."
I could not believe what I heard. This young man had stolen our car and was caught. Naturally we thought he would be ashamed of and guilty of his crime. But to our disbelief, this man -the thief - was dare enough to demand money from us openly and ready to under go the punishment. I still cannot believe and comprehend the audacity of that young criminal and his mindset. I have seen on that day a glimpse of the colour of a seasoned criminal's mind. Even though I got my car back without agreeing to any of his demands , that incident remains as an unforgettable event.
This world is full of different "colours" and it is impossible to comprehend. I used to say in my classes of "Customer Satisfaction" that the most difficult software design in the world is the wiring of a human mind. It is highly complex and unique. The programming could be decoded and corrected only by the designer. Others can only stand back and admire the creation. A new creation every time and unique. A best suited design to accommodate and nurture divinity as well as devilry.
